A friend posted a nice comment in my previous post and it prompted me to come up with a response:
Ela "anonymous", thanks for the comment.
Tip of the hat for the years at Leoforos from me and for mentioning some giants. I too spent a little time with my behind on the "felizol" in Leoforos, albeit a bit later than you.
You know, you are right. Somewhere deep inside I knew all these years that the whole thing is rigged.
But I like watching the game. I really enjoy watching Panathinaikos above all other teams; I enjoy the tactics, the dribbles, the goals, and all that make the game so much fun.
But now that I know FOR SURE that it's really really rigged to benefit ONE team and a posy of shady unemployed millionaires with small clubs, it's hard for me to focus on the players or to blame them for anything.
It's as if I had a Rolex that I always suspected it's a fake. Year after year I went through enjoying it because I had the hope that perhaps it's really a Rolex until one day someone came along and proved to me it's really fake and I should stop pretending. I can't take it seriously any more, but I can't just blame the second hand for not being performing like one should be performing in a genuine Rolex.
Maybe soon I'll get over it and realize that it's ok to enjoy the thing even if it's not genuine.
Maybe given a little time I'll get back to what's really exciting about the game and the club. From this blog I'll keep focusing on the game itself and hopefully I'll forget soon all the quiters (Tziggers, Vgenopoulous, Pateres et al), the instigators (organomenous, newspapers et al), and all the cheaters who lead the other so-called Greek football clubs. I never cared for them and now that they have become the protagonists in place of the players, I am disgusted.
I want so bad to enjoy the game again but these characters are depriving me of the pleasure.
